My theme is a basic "anything goes". I've got some colored lights, basic red, silver and white balls, and lots of eclectic handmade and "one-off" pieces thrown in. Overall, lovely and just right for the kids and me, IMO.
This year is SPORTS We bought the coke bottles shapped like ornaments and we ainted them like differnat balls , soccer, baseball , volleyball . We have not put up the tree yet. We have some rearanging to do first .
last year it was DUCT TAPE . everything was made from duct tape .. minus the tree. I did think about it . the year before was a "family tree" it had pics of family members , one from whent ehy where a baby and then one current and a fun one . I had pics of my grand paretns and great grand parents in vintiage frames . it was my most favorite tree althought i dont think it was the prettiest .
the year before was ocean creatures .. It was far the most pretty. (but i cant find pictures grrr) My first tree on my own .. i was poor and had no christmas things so we covered the tree with happy meal toys . and cute ribbon . It was the most fun .
We have done white lights and all silver ornaments for the past few years. This year we still have white lights, but added red and green ornaments into the mix.
It is also very sparkly. We have a lot of glittery ones, metallics and gem-like ornaments.
We do white lights, but the ornaments are a total mishmash of things. We have so many ornaments that some years we can't fit them all on the tree!
I always do white lights with red and gold balls. Then each year we each get 1 new ornament so that when the kids get older and move out they have ornaments for their first tree. I imagine eventually I will get rid of the balls because there will not be room for them.
I do white lights with silver and gold ornaments. It still shows off a lot of the pretty greenery, but has a lot of twinkle and sparkle...plus I get to pretend I'm Sam the Snowman from Rudolph and sing, "Silver and Gold" whenever I tell anyone about it. ;)
i have a white pre lit christmas tree and last year i did silver and blue and this year im doing black and silver. next year it will be all the bright colors like blues, pinks, reds, purples, oranges and greens....
my first year it was all white... my second year it was white and silver... my third year it was white.. silver.. and blue... getting the theme? lol.. basically, every year we buy new sets of ornaments. Last year I did only silver and purple.. I really really want to do a "bird and nest" tree one year with nests all over and felt and fabric birds sitting all over the tree.. but knowing my kids the birds would be gone by end of day one so that may have to wait. lol
This year we arent putting up our tree because my DH works Christmas Eve, Christmas day, and the two days after.. so the kids and I are flying to my moms.. but I am going to figure out some uses for the ornaments around the house (up high) and hang all of my fake garland with lights everywhere and call it good.
I haven't lately but we used to do them alot. I have done a white tree with all purple ornaments and lights. We had a victorian tree one year with fans, hats, birds, hearts and beads.
I love angel,so most of my ornaments are like dolls.I haven't decided what garland color I am going with this year.I have to make my tree skirt and it's Thomas Kinkade. It's mostly country blue and has the white snow flakes.I can't wait to finish it so I can decorate.I love to top the tree off with icicles.
