Cheap & Easy Ways to Decorate Your House for Halloween

Halloween decorations

We've only got a week to go before Halloween, so if you are planning on decorating your house to impress (or maybe scare) trick-or-treaters, now is the time to do it!

I know, I know -- there are so many holidays throughout the year that going all out in the decorating department for the sake of one night in October seems a little bit pointless, especially considering how pricey some home decor items can be.

But as the parent of a Halloween-obsessed 6-year-old who thinks putting up spiders and cobwebs is way more exciting than any Christmas tree -- I can tell you first hand that decorating your home for Halloween is a lot easier and less expensive than you think.

Take a look at this photo of my foyer, for example. (Yes, I know that it looks like Halloween threw up in my house.)

Believe it or not -- nothing you see pictured cost more than about $10 or so, and actually, most of it came from our local dollar store. The signs, lanterns, spider, and skulls were all bought for less than the price of a cup of coffee -- and the haunted house? That came from a do-it-yourself craft kit that was really cheap as well. (But it's a pain to put together and that's why I made my husband do it.)

And if cheap store-bought decorations aren't quite your cup of tea, you can always just pick up a few small pumpkins and gourds at the grocery store and adorn your tables and shelves with those. Sometimes all you really need is that extra pop of fall color to make your home ready for a spooky and festive Halloween night.

How are you decorating your home this Halloween?
