The amount of fame and fortune that Honey Boo Boo and her family have gained from basically being trashy astounds me. Aside from the fact that the family just got a HUGE raise from $5,000 to $7,000 per episode to between $15,000 and $20,000, TLC also recently offered the clan a new home. Ooh ooh! Will Ty Pennington come in and build it over the course of one crazy epic episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition?!
OK, I'm getting ahead of myself. Apparently, momma June isn't into the idea. She likes their house that sits right next to the railroad tracks juuuuust fine. To clarify: Yes, the Boo Boos are refusing a brand spanking new house. A bigger house. A house that probably doesn't reek of old potato chip bags, cheese balls, and farts. Jeez, maybe they are rednecks.
If that's not a sign that they haven't been impacted by fame, then shoot -- I don't know what is. It's actually kinda admirable.
I think June's trying to be a good momma. Her kids know this house and they are used to it. If she were to uproot the whole family into a different environment, maybe it wouldn't be as comfortable. In my eyes, it all comes back to the fact that, yes, this family is extremely southern, extremely redneck, and despite the fame, they aren't trying to change that. Heck, there's no use in pretending to be someone you're not, right?
Besides, I don't know about all of you, but I love watching them just the way they are. I can smell the stale corn chips buried beneath the cushions of that icky sofa they love chilling on just thinking about 'em. Gross, but that's some seriously good TV.
Do you think Honey Boo Boo's family is silly not to take the new house?

I think it's a good thing that they are not letting fame go to their heads. It's not a bad decision to turn down the house considering all of the money and the show and everything could be gone tomorrow and then they could be stuck in a house that they can't afford to pay for anymore. I am surprised though that they didn't consider it with the new baby in the house. That's a lot of people in one little house.
Im glad they aren't upgrading and I hope they use the money to give all of their children opportunites that they wouldn't have had without the show.
Everyone gives them flack about being "trashy" and whatever. But their mom June spends more quality time with her girls than most "High Class & Proper" parents. Just something to think about. The kids may not have manners, but they have a lot of happy family memories.
I am with you two Moms. It is good they turned this down. It would change who they are. They maybe something unusual for TV, but they are a happy family and in-touch with themselves.

Emily, you are a despicable, horrible, disgusting low-life. I hope you're not a mother. God help your children if you are.
I love this family. They are real and they love each other.
You can clearly see it.
I'm guessing not. In keeping the home they can AFFORD, they might actually be an example that most Americans, and especially our gov't, should look to.
Just because its shiny and new, and someone says 'free'...we should all remember, "Not everything that glitters is gold". And NOTHING in this world is free.
Good for them! I may actually watch a few episodes now, and see what all the fuss is about :)
"Affording" a house is more than a mortgage. Taxes will soar if the network builds them some monstrosity of a house. Didn't someone buy a house for one of those huge multiple birth families? They had to sell it auction b/c they could not afford the taxes, utiliites and upkeep. They were left in more of a financial bind than if they had stayed put. A lot of Ty Pennington makeover families also lose their homes even when the bank pays off the mortgage for the same reasons. Good for June!
