Horrible Couple Sells Lost Puppy on Craigslist Instead of Giving Him Back

Sometimes you hear something so awful that all you can really say is, "What the hell is WRONG with people?" And that's exactly how I reacted when I heard about a Pennsylvania couple who sold their neighbor's lost puppy for $50 on Craigslist instead of returning him.

Yes -- Scott and Roxanne Duff SOLD a 6-month-old Rottweiler to make a cheap buck, and they probably would've gotten away with it too if they hadn't made one key mistake.

It turns out the poor little pup wasn't alone when he showed up in the Duffs' yard; he had a Labrador Retriever with him that also belonged to the neighbor. The couple were advised by police to contact a local shelter or dog catcher, but they decided to go ahead and return the Labrador and put the Rottweiler up for sale.

After the neighbor had the Labrador back, the Duffs told police the other puppy had run away. When the neighbor didn't believe them, that's when they finally broke down and admitted they'd traded him in for a cool $50.

If they'd simply done the right thing and returned both dogs, they wouldn't be facing charges of conspiracy, filing false reports, and failing to return lost property. Heck, even if they'd just listed both of them on Craigslist, they probably wouldn't have been found out, and maybe they'd have $100 in their pockets. (Yes, of course I'm kidding.)

Thankfully this story does have a happy ending, as the woman who bought the poor pooch happily returned him, so he's back home with his family where he belongs.

If anything, this should serve as an important reminder to invest in a fence to make sure your pets don't stray from home. And if you're looking for a dog by way of Craigslist, you may want to think twice about scooping one up for a bargain price. You may wind up with someone's beloved family friend instead of a new watchdog.

Would you ever purchase a dog from Craigslist?
