A Sweet Shared Bedroom for Two Sisters

Home & Garden 3

Designing a shared room for siblings of different ages can be a tough task, but I think Lesley did a fantastic job for her 3-year-old daughter Matilda and baby sister on the way. In a style she describes as "slightly Scandinavian with vintage touches," this room is chock-full of fun personal elements and manages to merge the age gap beautifully.

Such pretty light from a nice big window. Love that sweet rocking horse and simple crib.

Everything is so thoughtfully placed and artfully arranged. Absolutely delightful!

Lesley struggled with lack of closet space and as a solution had closet racks cut to specification. She also put an unused cube storage unit on the top shelf, which helped her make the most of what she had.

Love this vintage Babar print -- it was a gift from a friend and looks right at home.

I love how these books are stacked. She simply hung 6" and 8" brackets and piled the books on top. It looks amazing, don't you think?

See a few more pics and read the details on this delightful room for two. Thanks for the tour, Lesley, and good luck on your impending arrival!

Have you ever put together a room for siblings of different ages? How did it go? Got any good tips or tricks?

My third grade girl welcomed her baby brother into her room when he was born a year ago. We have a loft bed for the big girl with bookcase and dresser for the boy stashed underneath. We took the bifold doors off the closet to preserve space and put a dresser for her in the closet along with toy shelves. The walls are a soft gray and a soft gray area rug covers the hardwood floors. Linens and drapes are a lemony yellow. Their room is only 10 by 12 so organization is key. We have yellow bins and baskets for their toys and other items in their shelves. Someday we may have a bigger home but for now, our children love beimg room mates!
