If you're hoping to re-create steamy scenes straight out of Fifty Shades of Grey in your own bedroom, then you may want to think about picking up a couple cans of paint on your way home from work. Because according to a new study, the color of your bedroom walls may be directly related to how much action you're getting between the sheets.
And for those of us who aren't exactly daring in the decorating department and like to stick to neutral, earthy tones -- this really isn't good news, because apparently we have a far less chance of getting busy than people who choose bold colors like purple and red to adorn the walls of their boudoir. (I guess there's something sexy about being tacky?)
Yep, people who aren't afraid to have their bedroom somewhat resemble an eggplant are supposedly getting the most action between the sheets -- actually, they're getting it on an average of 3.49 times per week. (Whoa!) And as for those with their very own "red rooms of pain"? They're enjoying intimate moments about 3.18 times per week, which is still pretty frequent.
But before you go out and buy a ridiculously gaudy color of paint to try and spice things up in the bedroom, there is some good news -- because a few other much more eye-pleasing colors still ranked pretty high on the sexual-encounters-per-week scale.
Sky blue came in just behind red, at 3.14 intimate moments per week, while pink rooms had an average of 3.02 times per week. And apparently there are couples out there who dig black bedroom walls and are also turned on by them, because they make love 2.99 times each week.
Who knew the color of your bedroom could have such a profound influence on your sex life? And aside from painting the walls, the furniture in your master suite plays into your sexy time as well. As much as you love your fluffy, plush duvet, according to the study, you're only rolling around under that cozy coverlet about 1.8 times per week. (Between 1 and 2 times per week? Somehow I'm guessing the couples surveyed weren't the parents of young children.)
And if you're one of the few people out there who actually prefer silk sheets to any other type of bedding, there's really good news for you because silk sheets are more conducive to lots of sex than any other type of bedding. (Ugh -- but silk sheets are just so hot and uncomfortable. But maybe that's the point? They inspire you to get naked?)
Whether or not changing the color of your bedroom will have a profound influence on your sex life remains to be seen, but one British decorator insists it definitely plays a factor. Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen says, "For years I have been telling British homeowners, a beige bedroom makes for a beige sex life."
Huh. Something tells me I'll be thinking about that statement as I go to sleep tonight under my warm and comfy duvet in my own bedroom -- which is painted a lovely hue called "Bleaker Beige."
Do you think changing the color of your bedroom would make your sex life more exciting?
