Do you have any big plans for Memorial Day weekend? Let me guess -- you're either heading to a family barbecue or picnic, going to the beach for a little fun in the sun, or staying home and trying to get caught up on chores around the house. Sound about right?

Regardless of how we are planning to celebrate Memorial Day, it's pretty safe to say that most of us are just thrilled to be enjoying an extra day off from work to spend with family and friends. But sometimes it's easy to forget what Memorial Day is really all about -- remembering those who have sacrificed everything for our freedom.

And if you're feeling really patriotic and want to make sure Memorial Day doesn't pass without honoring our brave men and women, then why not take a getaway to a place where you can not only show your gratitude to our military, but also educate your kids on just how amazing this country is?

By far, the most patriotic spot in the U.S. is good old Washington, D.C. Between all of the countless memorials and museums, there's pretty much nothing in that city that won't make you proud to be an American. And if you live on the eastern seaboard, D.C. is really not that far of a trip. If you don't have any plans yet for the weekend, throw the family in the car and head to the nation's capital.
