Okay, I'm going to stop crying now. I really am. At least long enough to tell you about this amazing pit bull who ... I'm getting verklempt! Talk amongst yourselves!
Seriously, this story breaks my heart because, as I started to say, it's about an amazing pit bull, and I have an amazing pit bull (she's actually half pit, half Eskimo) and there are SO many amazing pit bulls out there but the poor maligned animals continue to get such a bad rap.
How amazing is this pit bull? So amazing that she saved her owner's life -- by pulling her unconscious body from the path of an oncoming freight train after she passed out on the train tracks.
Lilly started out as a rescue dog, and she ended up rescuing her owner. Because that's what pit bulls are like!! Loyal and brave and sweet!
Even though poor Lilly paid a price for her heroic deed ...
Lilly suffered internal injuries and sadly needed to have her right front leg amputated ... but doctors think she will walk again.
I'm sure Lilly's owner, 54-year-old Christine Spain, is heartbroken. Her son David, a Boston police officer, gave Lilly to his mom as a therapy dog (she was battling alcoholism and depression).
Christine had been doing much better until a family tragedy last week. It was because of her related relapse that she passed out on the train tracks.
"We saved Lilly, and Lilly saved my mom's life," said David.
"My hope is that this story is going to get out and show what pit bulls are truly about. I hope by Lilly going through this, it's going to get other dogs homes."
Here's hoping, David!
Does this story break your heart? Do you know an amazing pit bull?

I love pit bulls they get the worst rap and I will admit there is some bad dogs but that is due to bad owners not bad dogs!
Thank you there is finally a good story about a pit bull. That's how they are by nature very sweet, and loyal and strong willed. People need to be good to these dogs!
Okay so this one pitbull did something great for it's owner but that doesnt' offset all the other tragic stories recently in the news...such as the one who killed the baby by chewing off it's legs...One exception to the general rule doesn't change the facts that a lot of pitbulls are viscious and hurt/maim/killl innocent people
Get your facts straight Okiegirl! The dog who chewed off the child's legs was a lab retriever mix! The same breed that was responsble for attacking the french woman who had the first face transplant ... Breed misidentification is the biggest problem that faces the pit bull today. You wouldn't know a pit bull if it licked you in the face! ;)
I'm so glad to hear that the lady and this special dog both survived.
