'Breakfast at Tiffany's' House Is a Gem of a Purchase (VIDEO)

by Mary Fischer on April 27, 2012 at 4:00 PM

audrey hepburnOne lucky buyer in New York City just picked themselves up a gem of a property -- even in somewhat of a literal sense. The famous home that was used as the facade for Holly Golightly's apartment in Breakfast at Tiffany's was just purchased for $5.97 million, which actually seems like a pretty fair price for a piece of iconic movie history.

The four-story brownstone is located at 169 E. 71st Street in the Upper East Side, and actually consists of two duplexes, so the new owner can either rent out one half or combine them into one larger home (which seems to be a growing trend among high profile NYC buyers).

The buyer of the house is listed as Costalea Holdings Limited, which is based in Cyprus, Greece. I don't even want to entertain the idea that they've never heard of the film, or even of Audrey Hepburn, but I guess there is the chance of them having no clue of the home's star-studded past. Seems like kind of a shame, doesn't it?

In addition to being a stately and elegant residence, the house also has five fireplaces, a big backyard for taking in a little fresh city air on nice evenings, and a solarium. Sounds like all that's missing is a screening room to watch the famed movie over and over again to catch glimpses of the house!

You can watch the original Breakfast at Tiffany's trailer in the video clip below. Doesn't it make you nostalgic for a bygone era?

What are some of your favorite homes from older films?

omgosh Breakfast at Tiffany's is my absolute favorite movie ever! I would just love to live in her apartment,  especially if it came with the tub couch from the movie :)
