Abused Pit Bull Gets Second Chance at Love (VIDEO)

gremlin

I've always been a bit leery of pit bulls because of the agressive reputation the breed has, but after hearing the story of an adorable female dog named Gremlin, I realized that you really can't judge a book by its cover when it comes to animals.

A man named Chris Hughes rescued Gremlin from a dog fighting ring, where she had to endure abuse that no pup should ever have to go through. Her hind legs were broken, and her vocal cords had been severed after having a baseball bat shoved down her throat. Even worse, her legs were broken so badly that doctors had to re-break them in order to set the bones correctly. (Doesn't that make you want to cry?) And after the horrible treatment she received, you'd think that she'd never quite warm up to humans again. But Gremlin proved that even though she's had a very rough past, she still has plenty of love to give.

She is now a certified therapy dog who is gentle and kind, and spreads warmth and love to children all over the world. So many people adore her -- and she even has her own Facebook fan page! (Such a hip gal!)

Take a look at the video clip below to see more of Gremlin's story -- it will warm your heart!

Isn't Gremlin's journey of healing amazing? She is such a source of inspiration to all of the people she encounters -- and it's almost like she knows these kids need her love as much as she needs theirs. She's living proof that your past doesn't have to dictate your future, regardless of where you came from.

Do you think that all dogs are capable of being rehabilitated like Gremlin?

YES! 10000000% YES!!! All dogs have the ability to have the way they think retrained no matter what! Sadly you sometimes encounter feral dogs or dogs who are so viscious they are never given a chance---my beautiful beautiful therapy PIT BULL, is a rescue dog as well! She was found on the streets, bb gun bullet in her leg, pregnant, ribs showing---the humane society killed all her puppies at birth and she had such a broken soul! Now she is the love of our lives and is giving love everywhere!

Thanks, now I'm CRYING!!! My Pup is a mix breed but has Pitbull in her, and has that "scary" thing happening for her (or so I'm told, I don't see it) she too was not treated well and then abandoned (but thankfully not like Gremlin, poor baby) she has one of the BEST temprements and LOVES to Love (with all 70 lbs of her) so I am both saddened that she had to endure that and elated that she has healed so much both physically and emotionally... I'm so glad this Pup FIANLLY gets to love and care she diserves. People who fight dogs, I just can't understand it, I see no empathy in them so I hesitate to qualify them as people. Also, I'll never understand this fear of "Dangerous Breeds" because I have seen too much evidence that it is NOT the breed but a combination of natural temprament (I have met some MEAN little dogs, even though my ankles can take it LOL) and enviroment (if you teach a dog violence is expected, expect them to be violent). I'm so glad that people notice stories like this so they can learn that you can't judge a dog by its breed. Thank you for this article (even if it made me cry)!!

People are disgusting. I wish someone would shove a baseball bat down whoever's throat did that to her. And people wonder why dogs bite? Ummm, because they're treated like garbage. I agree with the above and will add that any dog can be aggressive given the circumstances. Dogs aren't born "mean'", they're trained to be. I'm in school right now, and I'm studying animal behavior. I already knew a lot, but I encourage people to educate themselves before judging any book by it's cover, or any dog by it's breed.

I am so happy that Gremlin was able to be rescued and have a happy life. My son has a pit bull who is the sweetest dog I have ever met! I hope there is a special place in hell for people who abuse animals.

I think it was earlier this week-- the daily show had the author of a book about military dogs on the show. It was similary inspiring and I recommend it to everyone.
