Alicia Keys' Apartment Is Swanky but Not Kid-Friendly

alicia keysAlicia Keys' trendy SoHo apartment in NYC just went up for sale -- and one buyer with a deeply padded wallet can take it off her hands. It's listed at a cool $17.9 million -- which isn't exactly cheap, even by New York standards! Of course, I guess you really can't expect to pay anything less for a pad that was previously owned by two music legends and rented by other high profile celebs.

In addition to Keys and her husband, Swizz Beatz, Lenny Kravitz, Nicole Kidman, and Denzel Washington also called the posh digs home. So -- what will nearly $18 million get you in a swanky area of the Big Apple?

For starters, a lot of room to spread out! The terrace of the apartment alone is 3,000 square feet, and inside, you can take your pick of 16 rooms to get lost in. And if you're in the mood for entertaining, you're in luck -- because the place comes complete with a "state-of-the-art sound system." Shocker.

It's kind of surprising that Alicia would want to give up such a fancy apartment, but a couple of the home's other features don't exactly sound kid-friendly for her 2-year-old son, Egypt. The dining room is enclosed in glass (hello fingerprints), and there is also a "floating staircase" connecting the upstairs and downstairs.

Hmm. Stairs are scary enough with toddlers when they're just regular old stairs, so I can't even imagine how nerve-wracking it must be to chase a little one up and down ones that float! She and Swizz are doing the right thing by moving on to a house that's a little more equipped to handle their little one's energy. I'm sure they'll sleep much better at night knowing that Egypt is safe in their new pad.

Did you have to move to a child-friendly house after you had kids?
