Iconic 'Home Alone' House Sells for a Bargain Price (VIDEO)

home alone houseThe majestic brick colonial that was the centerpiece of the movie Home Alone has just sold -- for almost $1 million less than its asking price! The Winnetka, Illinois home closed for $1.585 million, which is a bargain, considering it was originally listed for $2.4 million. For whatever reason, I find it a bit sad and shocking that such an iconic property didn't go for the full asking price. Who wouldn't want to own a piece of Macaulay Culkin history?

I have been absolutely in love with this house ever since I first saw the movie when it came out in 1990. The style is just so classic and timeless, and the red brick makes it look so stately. This house has always been my vision of a dream home -- and my poor husband gets sick and tired of hearing about it whenever we watch the film around the holidays. Lucky for him the place is off the market -- plus, we aren't millionaires.

In addition to acquiring an incredible movie legend, the new owners of the home also wound up with 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms in a whopping 4,243 square feet. And they also kind of bought the end of an era in a sense, because the previous owners, John and Cynthia Abendshien, lived in the home since 1988, and were present when the movie was being filmed.

In the video clip below, you can hear John and Cynthia talk about what it was like to own the Home Alone house, and also see some shots of just how different it looks than it did in the movie. They definitely upgraded a few rooms in the past 20 years!

It's highly doubtful that the new owners of the home will want to sell it anytime soon. But if they ever do, I hope that they wait until after I've hit the lottery so that I can have a chance to make them an offer.

If you could live in any house from a movie, which one would it be?
