Marine Widow Surprised With Gift of a New Home Will Make You Cry

Get your tissues and handkerchiefs ready, because this is one of those stories that you just can't help but get a bit weepy over. As a self-proclaimed "non-crier," even I couldn't hold back the tears on this one. (Don't say I didn't warn you.)

One woman in Texas named Sara Wood had her whole world turned upside down a few months ago when her husband, Scott Wood, a U.S. Marine, passed away as a result of the injuries he suffered while in Iraq. Four weeks after his passing, she attended a Houston Texans game with her son -- and got the surprise of her life from an organization called Operation Finally Home during the halftime show.

In addition to a new bike for her son and a basket full of goodies, Operation Finally Home presented her with the gift of a brand new custom-built house that would also be fully furnished, and mortgage free. Can you even imagine how amazing it must have been for her to hear that? Losing your spouse is difficult and tragic enough, but worrying about how you are going to provide for your children going forward just adds to the stress and heartbreak. It's so wonderful to think that at least one weight has been lifted off this poor mother's shoulders, and that she will have finally have a little bit of joy in her life after going through such a difficult time.

You can watch Sara's emotional reaction to the news that she would be receiving a free home in a video clip here. Again -- get the tissues first. You'll need 'em.

Our troops give up so much for us and sometimes wind up paying the ultimate price, all in an effort to ensure that we can continue to live in a country where we have the right to live our lives the way we choose, all while feeling safe and secure. Honestly, I can't think of a more fitting way to pay tribute to those who have lost their lives fighting for our freedom than by doing something to protect and comfort the loved ones that they left behind.

Have you come across any other organizations that honor the troops in amazing ways?
