We all have to stare at blank walls when we move into a new home, and decorating them can be time-consuming and expensive. If you're looking for a solution, I've been so impressed with the DIY wall art projects that my sister Jordan has been featuring lately. She and her family are living temporarily in an apartment in Paris, so they're looking to decorate on a budget. I think she's done more in six months than most of us do in five years!
Hanging above her couch are two abstract paintings she and her husband did. Abstract art is harder to pull off than you'd expect, she tells me, but I think it looks fantastic. Check out her step-by-step instructions. And see two more projects below -- one your children could even help out with.
Jordan swears these painted words only take five minutes to accomplish. I need to start working on my handwriting!

This potato print artwork looks like something you'd see hanging in a modern art museum, but believe it or not, it's simple enough for you to do at home with your kids.
Any of these could be the large-scale piece of art you've been looking for -- on the cheap, no less -- to bring life to your walls.
Would you give one of these DIY art projects a shot?

It's great stuff. But since I am an artist I don't see why DIY has a bad rap. We have a lot of art that we received in trade and a lot of our own art on the walls. But one of my husband's favorite's is a drawing of us that a neighbor's child did. It's framed up and next to the fossils on the dining room wall.
