Barn Doors Worthy of the Big City

We've loved living in the French countryside for the last five months. The home we're renting is called La Cressonnière, and it's a beautiful farmhouse filled with details that I'm going to be sad to leave when our journey ends.

We haven't yet found a home for when we move back to the States, but I'm already thinking of ways we can bring a little of La Cressonnière with us. One idea I love is using sliding barn doors inside. Not only is it a great space saver, it adds visual interest and can be done to look modern or rustic.

This set of doors makes such an impact as an entrance to the kitchen.

The most rustic one of the bunch, this looks like it came straight from an abandoned barn.

Absolutely! My designer friends (Dejanu) who sell their stuff on 1stDibs have some very similar to these that were from an old church in their home, and they are amazing! I would love to do something similar in my home someday.

I LOVE this look! I wanted to do this to separate our hallway from the living room, and add some noise dampening. But at the time it was hard to find the right hardware. It looks like there are a lot of options now. I need to go find some doors!

Are these doors noisy? What is the likelyhood they will get stuck after a lot of use?

The last barn door looks really old. And it seems to be covering the bathroom. My problem with it is whether it can adequately shield the view from inside. The holes on the doors look like they can reveal some details of the going-ons in the toilet. That would be pretty embarrassing if it did. Other than that, the other retractable barn doors look very nice!

These barn doors with their rustic looks and contrasting colours really liven up the room. It is one of the most unique looks I have seen. They look better when paired with parquet flooring because the wood seems to complement each other.
