You know what there's not enough of? Bottles of water that cost $2,600. Am I right, people? Who's with me? Is this thing on?
Well, doesn't matter if you agree with me or not because my prayers have been answered. BlingH2O has now introduced the crystal-studded $2,600 bottle of water from The Dubai Collection called "The Ten Thousand." According to the site:
This bottle has over 10,000 hand applied Swarovski Crystals. Previously only available at Harvey Nichols Department Store in Dubai UAE. "The Ten Thousand" has recently been seen in the fall BeBe Catalog under "what's hot..." and is listed as the most expensive bottled water in the world by Forbes.
Hot indeed. Where can I pick up one of these suckers? A Cracker Barrel? Seriously?
Kevin Boyd, the CEO of BlingH20, admits that the crazy expensive water bottle contains the same agua as the bottle you'll find at a Cracker Barrel:
The company that bottles the water for Bling says its water is sold under about 90 brand names in the U.S.—including one that prices its bottles at $2.49 each, available at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store locations.
But, Boyd insists that it's not the water we're paying for (no, why would we want water when buying a bottle of water?). He says it's the lifestyle we're purchasing. According to SmartMoney:
Boyd doesn't dispute that his company's water comes from the Tennessee bottler but says the "couture" packaging justifies its price, especially with its hand-applied crystals and customizable designs. "I'm not just selling a water," he says, "but a lifestyle."
Now, I'm not a crazy rich person or anything, but I don't know, I'd like to think that if I ever were, I wouldn't be paying for the lifestyle of bedazzled water bottles. It seems so ... gauche. So cliche. Why not just light cigars with hundred-dollar bills and brush our teeth with Gucci toothbrushes while we're at it? Although a Gucci toothbrush would be kind of cool ...
The point is, this is cheesy! What would you do if you were walking through the airport and you passed a fancy rich lady toting Louis Vuitton luggage and swigging out of a crystal bottle? You'd make fun of her! Because it's ridiculous.
And anybody who feels that they need to flaunt their wealth in that manner -- well, that lifestyle just ain't for me. I'll pass, Mr. Boyd.
What do you think of $2,600 bottles of water?
