One of the biggest reasons why people still prefer to fight the crowds for holiday shopping isn't because they enjoy the Christmas music that's playing over the sound system. It's because they'd rather battle over Barbies than pay those darn shipping fees for ordering it online.
With over 55 percent of buyers opting out of purchasing online because of the shipping charges, retailers are starting to have a change of heart -- at least for during the holiday season.
Walmart announced this week that they're offering free shipping on its website through December 20, with no minimum purchase, on almost 60,000 gift items, including most toys and electronics.
But they're not the only store that is tapping into their inner Santa. Check out these other retailers that are spreading the holiday cheer with free shipping:
Macy's: For the first time ever, this year Macy's will offer free shipping on all online purchases ($99 minimum order; excludes furniture, mattresses, and rugs) for the entire season, from November 18 to December 20.
Target: Free shipping when you spend over $50 online on qualifying items.
Toys 'R' Us: When you make a purchase of $49 or more, you receive free shipping on all items except video game consoles/handhelds, software, hardware, and accessories.
Overstock.com: They are offering free shipping on your first order, so shop wisely!
On other sites, such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble, if you sign up to be a member ($79/year, $25/year, respectively), you can enjoy free shipping as well. Which, if you're a frequent customer, it might be worth the splurge. If not, you can sign up for a free trial membership, enjoy the perks during the holiday season, and then cancel before your trial runs out.
Do you do your holiday shopping online? If you didn't before, will you now that free shipping is offered?
