There's nothing like winning a huge prize at a convention . . . only to find out it doesn't work at your house.
So why am I celebrating?
Because the DVD with Flo TV subscription sounds great on paper -- and we'll be using the DVD portion on car trips regularly -- but I'm just not ready for TV in the car, streaming on the computer, the iPhone and the iPad everywhere you can carry them.
You don't need to catch up on True Blood in the work bathroom. Or get your Mad Men fix in traffic.
Or, frankly, put one of the old stand-by versions in any of these places where people still seem to spend the cash:
1. The bathroom. Ever heard of bathroom reading? You might want to try it sometime . . . lest your brain cells become bodily waste too.
2. The dining room. Under no circumstances should family dinner include any of these families: the Romanos, the Waltons, or the Pritchett/Dunphy/Tucker/Delgados.
3. Your shed. Ever read the manual on that string trimmer? The instructions not to operate heavy machinery while under the influence of mind-numbing comedies applies.
4. The kids' rooms. Scientists tell us we should care that TV in the bedroom makes for bad sleep habits. Parents, you really should care that you just lost a prime location for the time out chair.
5. The kitchen. Because this is not what an ER doc wants to hear: "So, I was chopping onions for dinner, and the Daily Show was on, and . . . I hope they like red sauce. "
6. On the deck. Turn off the Nature Channel. Now turn your head slightly to the left. See that bird? It's coming at you live.
Do you have TV-free spaces in your house?

We only have tv in the living room. We got rid of the one in our room when our after hours activities were interrupted. I do like one in the kitchen. I like the background noise, I also stay in the kitchen longer and clean more when I am watching a show, because I don't want to miss what is happening.
Other then that I agree completely! Since we no longer have cable, we watch much less tv.
The kitchen and dining rooms are no-nos for us. I like the family eating together and I know I'd end up with missing fingers if there was a tv in the kitchen. Also kids bedrooms are off limits as well. I grew up without a tv in my room and without a computer in my room and my kids will do so as well. Mostly because it's difficult to monitor what they are viewing if they are locked in their rooms at all times. They have a toy room down here that has a tv already in it (even though it hasn't been turned on since we moved lol) and when they are old enough it will also have a computer for each of them. We also have a tv in the office, even though it's not hooked up to sattelight, it's my husbands computer monitor/xobx/ps3 area but since we have netflix we'll watch movies in there and we also have one in the living room but when it dies, which will be soon, we'll get rid of the living room tv and only have the two down here plus one in our bedroom.
I lots of TV free space in my home.
I love these posts. I've always been a believer in one TV household and have stuck to it since before I had children. I still only have a TV in the living room. Never, ever in the bedroom. My children never had tv's or computers in their rooms and have grown up to be very well adjusted and successful. I have to say, will all due respect, that I am very alarmed at having tv's or dvd players in a vehicle. I see travel as good opportunities to talk with the children and point our sights along the way whether it's a shopping trip or a vacation trip.
My house is a TV-free space. :)
Wow! Cafe Suzanne, your whole house is TV free? I wish I could do that. We have a TV in the basement with my treadmill, one in our bedroom, the guest room and the living room.
Ok Pea, I know who to visit when I want to watch!
I completely agree with all of those listed. We have a TV in our den/family room, that's it. My husband and I don't even have one in our room as we want to lead by example for our children, who also do not have TVs in their rooms.
Not really......
Halways lol apart from those that you named.
