design starI loved Emily's design on the finale of HGTV's Design Star (and I guess the judges did too because she won!). The designers had to choose a former competitor for their client, with Emily selecting Tom.

She nailed his style -- the room looked like his wardrobe converted into home decor. She used a charcoal palette of grays and deep blues, luxurious fabrics, and polished it off with some bling in the form of metallic accessories to represent those Rolexes he always donned. Want the look? Here are a few options to get you started:

sofa
The modern white, armless sofa really pops against the dark wallpaper. However, white sofas aren't an ideal choice if you're clumsy or have kids ... trust me on this one, I learned the hard way.

If you so choose to take on the white sofa challenge, this Draper Pearl sofa from CB2 ($799) is a beauty.

coffee table

The coffee table, like this one from Mercantila ($330) is a little stark (white with silver screams sterile to me). Pair a plush rug, such as shag rug from Walmart ($90) to significantly warm it up.

A bachelor pad cannot be complete without comfortable black seating such as this rider lounge chair ($159).

In my honest opinion, this room would have sucked if not for the pinstripe wallpaper and wall art. The furniture is very plain, but it works because of the dark, printed background and the large, but simple, triad of brown wall art.

And last but not least, don't forget to add the metallic accessories for a little bling to the room.Go with a large vase, such as this Persian vase ($5.89) or group together a trio of candle holders ($79).
