Summer is fully upon us and I am craving a drawn-out backyard meal. A dinner with good friends that starts in the late afternoon and ends past sundown. The sort of gathering that allows the grownups to engage in the most interesting conversations while the kiddies run around on the grass with bubble wands. Doesn't that sound appealing?
To aid my day dreaming, I've been hunting up ideas for outdoor lighting. It seems to me that the perfect lighting can turn any old BBQ into something special. I've got five great outdoor lighting ideas (including the one pictured above) for you after the jump.
1) Paper Pennant Garland How-To
I love the above idea for a customizable garland. It would be fun to have messages in the lanterns that guests won't discover till the sun goes down.
2) Sun Lamp DIY
Megan of NotMartha has written a great tutorial for these sun lamps in a jar. They're so glow-y and cool. They look like someone has bottled one of the sun's rays.
3) Silk Flower Light Garland
These garlands look really easy to put together. They're basically a string of holiday twinkle lights with silk flowers over each bulb. These would be fun winding around a trellis or canopy at a birthday party.
4) Soji Paper Lanterns
Not a DIY sort of girl? No problem. Try these gorgeous Soji solar lanterns. They soak up the sun all day and give it back at night.
5) Votives in a Jar
If you're looking for something more casual, here's an idea. I made a dozen of these canning jar votives and hung them in our apple tree for some quick romantic lighting. See more pics here.
I hope these ideas get you thinking about hosting your own outdoor party. If you do, I definitely want to hear about it. : )
P.S. -- You could also go old school with some kerosene lanterns.
