Meet Jessica Krueger-Linkowski of Simply Signs, a crafty mom from Orland Park, Illinois, who makes and sells cute signs for your kids rooms.
We've got a serious Etsy habit going on here at The Stir, but while we're drooling, moms like Jessica are finding time to make some seriously cute crafts. We track down one mom every week to give you a look at what it means to buy Mom-Made.
Tell us the story behind Simply Signs.
Last fall, my husband was taking our Halloween decorations down from the garage attic, and we had a broken sign on one of our outdoor stakes.
Instead of throwing it away, I decided it could be saved, and I was off to the store to gather up some supplies. By the end of the week, our garage was covered in signs.
Friends and family started making requests, and then someone mentioned Christmas was right around the corner ... there was no end in sight! Before long, I added many different themes and ideas, and was doing a craft show every weekend!
How many children do you have?
My husband Gary and I have one son, Avery, who will be 2 in June.
How much time do you spend crafting every week?
Wow that's a tough one! Hmm, I probably spend around 40+ hours a week actually painting. That's not including the many many hours I spend glued to my laptop that are work-related, shopping for supplies, attending events, etc. The hours I actually spend working feel endless at times!
How do you make the time to craft while being a parent?
Photo from Simply SignsHonestly, I have severely cut back on my sleep! Also, I have tons of family nearby and Avery loves to play with his cousins and friends, so I will sit outside and watch them while I work!
Do you have your own craft room or do you share space with your kids?
I have taken over our garage, but I DO have to share with my husband. I cannot complain though, because I have heat, A/C, couches, a fridge, a big-screen TV, and my own DVR so I can catch up on my shows! It's quite wonderful, actually.
