Meet Kim Detmers of Clay by Kim, a creative mom from Alamogordo, New Mexico, who makes and sells clay fairy portals, pendants, and more.

We've got a serious Etsy habit going on here at The Stir, but while we're drooling, moms like Kim are finding time to make some seriously cute crafts. We track down one mom every week to give you a look at what it means to buy Mom-Made.

Tell us the story behind Clay by Kim:

I do markets and festivals throughout the summer. I opened my Etsy shop so that people could find me during the winter months. It has kept me busy all year and I LOVE it!

How many children do you have?

I have three girls -- Bailey (15), Sophie (12), and my little Lilly bug who is 8.

How much time do you spend crafting every week?

A lot! I'm addicted to polymer clay and I really hate it when the laundry gets into my clay time. I have all day while the girls are at school. It was a lot less when they were little, but I chose to be a stay-at-home mom and I really treasure those years when the girls were home all day with me. We had great fun!

How do you make the time to craft while being a parent?

I'm lucky to be at home so I fit it in when I can. Before I had my kids, I used to paint murals, and it was hard to be away since my husband had a job with "on call" hours. After I had my kids, I had to find something that I could do at home. My children are always my first priority, and it was difficult at times, but now that they're older, it's much easier.

I used to involve my children as much as possible too. They could play with my scrap pile and we'd have a great time. They're very creative now.

Do you have your own craft room or do you share space with your kids?

I'm in the dining room. It's a little room in the front of my house that my hubby graciously gives up. Before we moved here, I was in the living room of our old house. I have a fold-up work area, but it never seems to get folded up. I have a great view of the mountains, and I'm in the main living areas so I'm not shut up out of sight. I feel very lucky!

What are your favorite craft blogs and/or shops?

I love Etsy! So many talented folks there. I also try to shop local whenever I can. I like Polymer Clay Daily. There are so many generous artists out there.
