After being sick for more than 15 years, and after recently being diagnosed with gastroparesis, PhoenixFire has decided to start on a raw food diet. She is hoping that by eating all raw foods, she will get her energy back and feel healthy again. We'll check in with her each week to see how her raw food journey is progressing...
The following is an excerpt from PhoenixFire's first journal entry about going on a raw food diet:
I have been very ill lately. I have been sick for over 15 years, and the doctors have just figured out what is wrong with me. I have gastroparesis. It is an impairment of the stomach. It takes my stomach three times longer to digest foods than the normal human stomach. The doctors are baffled by this. Most people with this condition are in the late stages of life with quite a few years of diabetes behind them.
I am 26 and do not have diabetes.
I was given two choices. I can either eat six small meals throughout the day. (I have been doing this since I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia.) Or I can have a pill a day for the rest of my life. However, the doctors don't think that my condition is bad enough to warrant a pill a day.
I have opted for the third choice. I found a book called 12 Steps to Raw Foods by Victoria Boutenko. Her family had many health problems and she did some research to find out how healthy people get (or stay) healthy. She found her answer: Raw Foods.
I have resolved to try this method and see if it brings about the change that I need to have my life back...

I would like to know more - I will check out your blog :)
Let me share a small secret that many parents do, while we want our kids not to eat much of food from outside the home we usually do not apply this rule to ourselves. Sometimes the consideration is that food from outside is not good for kids but again its okay for us to be having such food. I too am quite similar I crave for food from our nearest Los Angeles food delivery but for my son I shall prepare food always at home and just let him have a small bite of food I call for myself.

I too will be checking out her blog. This is very interesting to me. I may get the book too!
being someone that has gastroparesis, this is the one diet that is strictly IMPOSSIBLE. Raw foods are much harder to digest, take longer, and is extremely painful. Everyone with GP is told by doctors to stick to a very strict low fiber low fat diet, using mostly liquids like smoothies to keep their calorie intake up. Things like raw broccoli, carrots, etc. are a huge no-no, and can put you in the hospital for eating.
I'm amazed at the strength and pain this person is willing to go through to try a diet.
