Supermodel Kate Moss is being criticized by eating disorder experts after she told fashion site WWD in an interview that her motto is "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels."
When asked in the WWD interview if she had a motto, Moss, who is famous for her skinny, waif-like look, responded:
There are loads. There’s “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.” That’s one of them. You try and remember, but it never works.
Eating disorder experts, as well as models campaigning to stop the use of "Size 0" models in the fashion industry, criticized Moss' comment because the same motto is posted on Web sites encouraging girls not to eat.
Do you think people are being too hard on Kate Moss? Or do you think comments like these make it more difficult for people struggling with eating disorders and body image issues?

Uh...that's been my eating healthy motto forever. I've told it to other people. It's not something you tell yourself to avoid eating, it's something you want to tell yourself when you've eaten enough healthy food for the day but you're seriously thinking about going into the kitchen and tearing into a cake. At least that's how I interpret it.
As one who has suffered for years with an eating disorder, I do take offense to that comment by her. I have been very lucky in that I haven't completely destroyed my reprodctive system. But at my highest (non-pregnant) weight, I tip the scales at a whopping 101 pounds. I am 5'4". When the numbers on the scale go over 100, I panic. My average weight is in the mid 90's and at my lowest, I was 79 lbs. Everyday is a struggle to do something as basic and natural as eating. But after years of starving, my body no longer even knows what hunger is. I have to make a concious effort to sit down and eat, something many other people take for granted. When I have a busy day, it'll sometimes be dinnertime before I even realize that I haven't eaten at all that day. I do not have a rumbling stomach to tell me "Hey, I need some food!" I still look in the mirror and see a completely different person than what my husband and kids and family see, but I have to fight that reflection. Nothing tastes as good as food that has never gone over the tongue of an anoretic. There is a huge difference between eating healthy and eating well and living with an eating disorder which distorts your very view of food.
What's wrong with that comment?! It sounds exactly like, "Those pieces of pizza and cake may be great, but your health is much sweeter."
I've heard people say that for years.. I dont see whats wrong with it. Just like (both) Aurora's ;) just said... I read it as "no cake tastes better than fitting in your jeans.. eat something GOOD for you instead". Any saying can be used on any website.. just because some people with disorders have adopted it as a motto doesnt make it a bad motto. I say it to myself when I have eaten my decent meals for the day but I am craving something bad... do I really need it? No. And its just one more step further away from my ideal body.
Simply being skinny does not equal being healthy, there is a huge difference. You can be slender and skinny and be just as unhealthy as someone who weighs 500 pounds. Just as someone who is technically "overweight" can be healthier than someone who is within normal weight ranges. I am skinny. Am I healthy? Not by a long shot.
People will take offense to anything. I don't have a problem with it. I think it's one of those sayings that you can interpret in different ways. If you want to see it as "I shouldn't eat anything because I want to be skinny" then you will. If you want to view it as "That triple chocolate cupcake won't feel better than fitting in my pre-preggo jeans" then you will.
When I was struggling to lose all of my weight, I took that phrase to mean basically what the person above me said...that a cupcake or bowl of ice cream was tempting but it wasn't going to feel as good as seeing the scale drop as I hit my goals.
It's kind of a big conclusion jump IMO to assume that it means just don't eat.
