fruit cupMr. Cafe Kim and I don't generally eat dessert at home; if we do, it's usually a square or two of dark chocolate or a piece of fruit. It's not that we don't love sweets—we do! Especially Mr. Cafe Kim. But we try to limit desserts because the calories really add up. Here are 20 healthy dessert ideas for you and your family:

  • Grilled pineapple or peaches
  • Frozen grapes
  • Low-sugar sorbet
  • Jello
  • Fat-free pudding
  • Healthy banana bread
  • Animal crackers
  • Fruit cups
  • Applesauce with sprinkled cinnamon
  • Yogurt parfaits (yogurt layered with granola and fruit)
  • Strawberry and pineapple kabobs
  • Apple slices and sugar-free caramel dip
  • Frozen orange slices
  • Fruit salsa
  • Watermelon
  • Berry smoothies
  • Banana split (with low-fat vanilla yogurt instead of ice cream)
  • Graham crackers
  • Yogurt fruit salad
  • Low-sugar cereal

Do you have anything to add to the list? Which healthy desserts does your family enjoy?

In my mind, "healthy" and "dessert" don't belong in the same sentence. :) But, grilled pineapple does sound delish.

My kids love the frozen grapes, expecially in the summer.

I like to get a whole pineapple cut it up and freeze it.  Then I take some out about 30 minutes before I'm ready to eat it.  It's still frozen in the middle but the outside is thawed.  Yum.

We love dessert but it's not usually healthy.  It's usually ice cream and it's not low fat or low cal.

i love skinny cow ice cream sandwiches, hostess 100 calories mini cupcakes [my favorite is the strawberry ones] and 94% fat free popcorn. also, something my sister taught me is slice a banana on a plate, drizzle with sugar free chocolate syrup and put in the freezer for 30 mins. you get frozen treat thats healthy but also sweet.

While not considered "dessert" by many, we definitely love our fruit bowl salads - grapes, melon, pineapple, strawberries, blueberries, etc. all make an amazingly healthy dessert.  In fact, you can even add a little coffee cake on the side and not feel guilty!
