I just started watching The Biggest Loser this season, and I have to admit, I'm completely addicted. Last night's episode had trainers Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels giving some great tips on how to order healthy food in a restaurant. Here's a re-cap of their wise weight-loss advice (don't worry, absolutely no spoilers here!):
According to Bob and Jillian, here's how to make healthy food choices when eating out at a restaurant:
- Plan ahead and look at the restaurant's menu online BEFORE you visit so you know what they have and can avoid temptation.
- Remove temptation even if it means refusing free appetizers or other specials (like chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant).
- Drink water, club soda, or unsweetened iced tea instead of alcoholic or beverages containing a lot of sugar.
- Order all dressings and sauces on the side.
- Don't be afraid to send back a dish if it's not what you ordered.
- Steaming or roasting is the healthiest way to prepare vegetables.
- Look for dishes that have a good balance of protein, healthy fat, and good carbohydrates.
- Avoid anything that's been "sauteed" or "pan-fried."
- Look for options that have been grilled, steamed, baked, broiled, or poached.
- Don't be afraid to ask the kitchen how a dish is prepared. If they can't tell you, stay away from it.
Did you watch last night? Were you sad about who went home? Who is your current favorite on The Biggest Loser?

I too, just started watching! I have 2 favorites..Shay and Abby. Shay because she really needs this. But Abby needs to get her life back after all she's been through. Everytime someone goes home, Im sad. But Julio is doing great on his own! I am so addicted too!
MadsMom04-- I love Shay and Abby, too! And I love the pink team! And Dina! Hahaha...I think I just love all of them! :)
I love The Biggest Loser! My favorites are Shay, Abby, and Dan. Tracey is crazy!!!!
I just think they all deserve it in their own ways! Im sad whenever anyone leaves!
ive watched a few seasons but decided this yr not to follow it. its just too long. and the same type of stuff said over and over. i dont miss it all. but those are good tips for eating out. its my biggest challenge. i have all the information for what to do right but i have a mental block doing it. i think b/c im paying for someone else to cook for me, i should get something i normally wouldnt have [aka, bad for you]. so for that reason, and money, we rarely eat out.
I love Abbey and I agree that Tracy is nothing nice. She is a very competitive person...I missed it last night ARGH, I wanted to know how on earth Tracy lost 11 pounds without a trainer???
I had the exact same question, fooddiaryuser! Maybe being so competitve burns extra calories! ;)
We have ONE vegan restaurant even close to where I live and I don't mean to sound egotistical but I prefer my food to theirs. So we don't eat out at all. Over time I've actually gotten really icked out at the thought of strangers making my food anyways. I believe a little bit of the cooks karma goes into whatever you eat.....
I've been a Biggest Loser fan since about Season 4 - some people make fun of me, but I love it! This season seems a bit extreme to me -- the producers are showing way too much yelling by the trainers. But I still love it. I liked the red team a lot, but now my favorites are probably Liz (love her attitude) and Coach Mo.
