Swine Flu Guide

Why One CafeMom Will Not Get the Swine Flu Vaccine

swine flu guide

swine flu vaccineWhich do you think is scarier: The number of swine flu deaths reported by the media? Or the fact that the H1N1 vaccine (first doses go out today), which the government is encouraging everyone to get, is so new?

There's so much information out there and so much panic that some moms are confused about how to make a good decision about whether to get the shot. I asked Neonds13, group owner of Educate Before You Vaccinate, to explain why she will not be getting the H1N1 vaccine.

CafeMom: Will you or your children be getting the swine flu vaccine?

No. In my opinion, this is very bad vaccine. It was made too quickly and under too much pressure. There are preservatives, chemicals, toxins, and heavy metals in this vaccine that are not safe and have been proven to cause long-term neurological damage and disorders. These ingredients have also been known to cause GBS (Guillain-Barre syndrome), developmental disorders, mental and physical paralysis, and auto-immune disorders. The vaccine also contains mercury and thimerosal, which were supposed to be barred from ALL vaccines several years ago but never were. (Several vaccines on the market and in current use today STILL contain mercury and thimerosal.) Also, the nasal mist vaccine contains the living virus of the vaccine: this means that you could actually get the illness from the vaccine itself, and you are potentially contagious for 7-10 days after receiving it.

If you were pregnant or had a pre-existing health condition that put you at high-risk for flu complications, would you consider it?

No. I would still take my chances with the virus over getting a vaccine that has not been thoroughly tested, studied, and trialed. And, I still would not want all those toxic ingredients injected into my bloodstream. I just cannot see how anyone can think that injecting things into your body—like mercury, thimerosal, aluminum, formaldehyde, animal tissue and DNA, aborted fetal tissue, human and animal genes, acetone, ect. —is going to make you safer, healthier, and give you immunity. In reality, all those things just weaken your immune system while your body is fighting off all that junk, making you more susceptible to picking up other viruses and bacterias.

Lots of moms and pregnant women are terrified by recent news reports of deaths of pregnant women and children from the swine flu and, therefore, are considering getting the H1N1 vaccine. Do you think it's difficult to make a smart decision when there's so much hysteria surrounding this issue?

I do think it's hard for people to make a smart decision when every time they turn on the TV, pick up a newspaper, or go online they are bombarded with this hysteria of the "horrible pandemic" and that they NEED to get their swine flu vaccine to stay safe and keep their loved ones safe. It's truly maddening how the media and the government is using every scare tactic in their power to convince people that this is some sort of plague that will kill you no matter what.

So then what advice would you give to other moms who are trying to decide whether or not to get the vaccine?

DO YOUR HOMEWORK! And by that I mean, do your OWN homework. Don't just take the word of your doctor because nine times out of 10, they are just as clueless as the rest of the country. They are only telling you what they've been told OR have been told to tell you. Use search engines on the Internet and look at non-mainstream news stories and articles. Use CafeMom and join one of the many vaccine groups; however, my advice on that, though, is to join one that is not completely one-sided. I do recommend my own group, Educate Before You Vaccinate. It's open to all moms no matter how they choose to vaccinate. All I ask of the moms in my group is that they be open-minded and respectful to everyone's choices, beliefs, and opinions on vaccines. My group is NOT a debate group, and I have worked very hard to keep it "drama-free".

If a mom is on the fence about whether or not she or her children should receive the vaccine, where could she go to get good information?

There are a lot of great websites:

Any other advice?

All I can do is continue to encourage moms to educate themselves and do the research before making any hasty decisions about getting the swine flu vaccine.  Know the ingredients, know ALL the side effects, ask your doctor to see the package inserts from the vaccine box or ask to get a copy to take home and read. Ask questions and keep asking until you are satisfied. Don't get this vaccine before you are positive you can make a well-informed and well-educated decision about it.

Thank you to Neonds13 for sharing this information with us!

Will you be geting the H1N1 vaccine?

I agree with her to an extent, though I find her choice of sources to be extremely telling of her position on vaccines in general, as they're very anti-vaccine sites that lack in a lot of actual facts.

Thimerasol and mercury are not the same thing, nor are they interchangable.  Similar, yes, but not interchangable.

RanaAurora -- good point. Yes, this is definitely only one side of the story. I'm actually looking to talk to moms who ARE choosing to get the vaccine, so if anyone would like to share their thoughts, please PM me!

    Ditto what Rana said!!

Also, to my knowledge, the increase in GBS was never officially blamed on the vaccination regime at that time.

Just because a chemical has been found to cause a certain reaction doe not mean that its presence in a product will cause the same reaction.  CONCENTRATION is key.

I also think these comments are anti-vaccine in general. There aren't any specific allegations regarding the swine flu shot. The swine flu vaccine is made exactly like the seasonal flu shot. Yes there are chemicals and preservatives, but they are no diferent than what is in the seasonal flu shot. If you are anti-vaccine in general then you probably won't get it. However, if you feel safe getting the seasonal flu shot, then you should certainly feel safe getting the swine flu shot. The flu vaccine makers are hoping to have enough prefilled preservative free doses of the swine flu for children and pregnant woman. As for the nasal vaccine, yes it is a live virus, but it is a weakened form of the virus. It would be safe for an otherwise healthy adult to receive as long as you aren't going to be around any high risk people (babies, pregnant women, immunocompromised etc) If you are pregnant or have children I would recommend getting the vaccine. My husband and I are healthcare providers with a 3 month old, a 4yr old and a 6yr old with reactive airway disease. We will be getting vaccinated and we will be vaccinating our older 2 children. I feel the risk of losing one of my children to the flu outweighs the small risk of GBS ( which is associated with many vaccines not just swine) Hope that gives a different perspective. Sara

Is there a thimerosal free version of the SF shot then Sara?  Because it's loaded with it...and there IS a thimerosal free version of the seasonal flu shot.

Also there are people who already have died and developed complications from the swine flu shot and that is a fact.  Not sure where you're doing your research.  Not trying to be rude, just sayin'.  I feel that the risk of losing one of my children to a toxic vaccine outweighs the risk of him catching the flu.  He has been damaged enough by vaccines as it is.

I agree.  The websites that I did list as resources are one-sided.  However, most of them are NOT mainstream news outlets.  And too, it's hard to find ANY vaccine resources that are not one-sided.  It's either all pro-vaccine or all anti-vaccine.  I however, am not anti-vaccine.  I am anti-toxins, chemicals, heavy metals and anti-schedule when it comes to our childrens' vaccines and the vaccines that we get as adults.  I really see no reason why these companies CANNOT clean up these vaccines and make them without all the potentially harmful crap that they put in them.  Does ANYONE think that Mercury, Aluminum & Formaldehyde is safe to inject into your bloodstream in any amount?  Let alone the bloodstream of a small child?  I agree with aurorabunny - I'll risk the virus (and the chance for natural immunity) over losing my child's life or his state of life that he currently has.  I would not want him seriously affected mentally or physically by something like a vaccine.  I am also well aware that a lot of my comments do come across as anti-vaccine, but if you would notice in my comments I did not say anywhere what others should do.  I am not here to push anyone into any kind of decision.

My goal is to encourage people to be informed about vaccines, aware that there are several more risks when it comes to vaccines than what your Dr/Ped will tell you and so on.  I encourage everyone to just do their research and to read and look this stuff up.  No matter what anyone chooses, to get the shot or not, I just want everyone to be able to make that decision and educated and well-informed one.  And I do have to say that vaccine damaged children DO exist and maybe (and I truely hope not) when it's your child that is caused harm by a vaccine or the ingredients in them, then you will be able to understand where a lot of us Moms come from.  We all understand that vaccines have and still do good, but in this day and age with all the knowledge and technology we have there is NO reason that these companies can't produce and safer and more natural product to keep our kids and us safe without the plethora of potential serious, harmful and sometimes fatal side effects.  Can you really not agree with that?
