Cancer affects us -- that's a huge understatement. September was Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and now October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and one thing is certain -- we all need to be more aware no matter what month it is.
Women aged 40 and over are encouraged to get a mammogram each year -- and there is a new plan in place to help women remember to schedule one. But even if you are under 40, self breast exams are just as important...and easy to forget.
The National Breast Cancer Foundation's Early Detection Plan set up a system where you can get your yearly reminder by text, email, or even RSS feed. Seems like a great system, so I wanted to share with all the ladies.

My family doctor had me start mine younger than 40 because my sister had breast cancer. I can't even begin to tell everyone how important having a yearly check up is and doing breast self exams always. If you are checking yourself all the time, you will discover a lump a lot sooner than waiting. Plus having the yearly mammogram will help you to also catch something early as well. My sister had her first mammogram on a fluke. They actually found cancer and she was able to have surgery and also only needed to do radiation. She is now still cancer free almost twelve years later! So it may suck going in and having your breast smashed in those plates but it is so worth it and could save your life! Please everyone have them done and take a friend and make them have one too!
