I have teeth on the brain lately because my 6 year old is on a roll. He lost his two bottom front teeth within a week of each other and now several on the top are also loose. He's hoping they'll all fall out together because he thinks he'll get to have milkshakes for breakfast, lunch and dinner until the new ones grow in.
I'm a little sad because the adult teeth are changing his baby smile. He's starting to look so grown-up now. Sometimes I wish he could keep his baby teeth forever.
But as soon as I say this ... I find out that some adults still do have their baby teeth! Not in a keepsake box, but in their mouths! Sometimes a few of the 20 primary teeth never fall out, and it's actually not a good thing. But apparently, it's pretty common because moms in Newcomer's were talking about their lingering baby teeth and all the unfortunate problems they have because of them. I guess I don't wish this on my child, after all.
One mom had a baby tooth pulled as an adult, and it was so painful that she's decided to just leave the rest in.
Another was going to get braces, but the dentist needs to pull the baby teeth first, and that put the price out of her range, so she had to forget it.
One mom says that if she pulls her baby tooth, it will leave a gap since the adult tooth underneath had stopped growing at some point.
Still, in other cases, remaining baby teeth don't cause any problems and dentists say to just leave them.
Do you still have all your baby teeth? Have they caused problems?

I still have 3 baby teeth, my mo who is in her 40's has 4 baby teeth and we found out last week that my 4 year old, who is missing a baby tooth, is missing that same adult one on both sides so we know for sure he will have one baby tooth for most of his life! Maybe more! The only problem I have had with mine is that one of them had a cavaity when I was little and the filling has fallen out a couple times and each time they tell me that I amgoing to have to get the tooth pulled and an implant in because they aren't sure there will be enough tooth left since it is a small tooth. But I still have it and it is working just fine!
I still have my baby one yr molars. Only my bottom two and there are no adult teeth under them. Since I have been to the dentist regularly they are in good shape. If they ever do fall out since really there is no root, I would have to get a bridge which I dont want so I am super careful!!!
actually i had 2 sets of baby teeth. i lost all my baby teeth, then grew what i thought were my adult set, then those started falling out, i was freaked out to say the least! we went to the dentist, and he explained that tho it's rare, some people do have 3 sets of teeth instead of 2. my adult adult teeth grew in well after. i had so many teeth and my teeth grew in big, that my mouth was too small for them. i had to pull a bunch of them out before they could strap on braces. i wore braces for almost 4 years, and now, you would never imagine i had such a nightmare in my mouth! haha
My husband still has several of his baby teeth well I won't go into detail but he is going through a lot of pain and will be needing to get all of his teeth removed including the unerupted adult teeth and get a full set of dentures. My poor husband :(
My mother in law still has her full set of baby teeth. They just never fell out and it's caused her no end of problems.
fmchavez, has your husband ever thought of getting implants?
I had my baby teeth untill I was 14 and I had to have them pulled out while I had sergery to pull down 2 of the adult teeth that were growning in sideways and I am missing one adult tooth that never developed and on just partially developed.
My last baby tooth didn't fall out until I was 19 years old. I remember sitting in the dentist chair and it was loose, so he wanted to pull it. I wouldn't let him! They caused no problems at all for me.
