It's probably no big surprise that your feet can get dirty while wearing flip-flops. But did you know that Staphylococcus aureus, a potentially deadly germ, can be included in the dirt and grime you pick up? If you have an open wound, the bacteria can enter the bloodstream, and if left untreated, it can kill you.

All of this is according to a story in the New York Daily News in which two reporters wore flip-flops around New York City for four days. They had their shoes tested at a lab, where scientists reviewed the results. The flip flops contained over 18,100 bacteria, including fecal bacteria and E. coli. Eww!

Of course, this all happened in New York City, but still, grime is everywhere. Plus, as Cafe Kim says, flip flops are unhealthy in lots of ways.
