Move of the Week: Figure-8 Belly Dancing Move

I've always found the belly dance workouts intriguing but never had the guts to actually do one. The moves are intimidating to me and, quite honestly, there's a reason why I'm working out and it's not to show off my tummy in a cute dancer's outfit.

It's a shame too because belly dancing has tons of benefits:

  • Improves posture
  • Ab toning
  • Preperation for childbirth: The toned abdominal muscles and natural hip tucks, which are similar to the "pelvic rocking" taught during prenatal classes, teach the expectant mother how to move her pelvis.
  • Low-impact
  • Builds back and arm muscles
  • Aids in digestion: The swaying dance moves help move food along the digestive system.
  • Weight loss
