Medical marijuana is legal in 13 states. But it is against the law in Illinois.
Illinois resident Laura Llanes bought marijuana for her cancer-stricken aunt, and she was fired from her job as an emergency dispatcher near Chicago.
She says she bought the marijuana for her aunt who is suffering from breast cancer and chemotherapy.
Laura Llanes worked for CenCom E-9-11 for four years. The company handles dispatches for eight suburban police and fire departments, and Llanes supervisors did not press charges.
Llanes says she is not sorry, and she would do it again.

No, I don't think she should be fired, but I don't know what is written in her contract. My contract says I can be fired for breaking the law, among other things. I don't like it, but I signed it!
no to bad they cna't turn it into hemp
no she should not be fired for trying to help her aunt.
No. How does what she is doing in her personal life have to do with her job anyway? Surely its none of there buisness. It would only be there buisness if she was smoking it at work or it was affecting her work. Good for her that she tried to help her aunt.
Was it illegal for her to buy it for her aunt? Did she sign a contract saying if she broke the law, she would be fired? If the answers are yes, then yes, she should have been fired. How did her job find this out if she didn't do it legally?
Medical professionals known well and good they lose their medical license for things like this in quite a few states.
I personally think her aunt should be allowed to have it LEGALLY - BUT - this is the current law, and she broke it and has to deal with the consequences. Whether or not you AGREE with laws, you still need to follow them.
Yeah - what RanaAurora said, except 'know' instead of 'known'
No i think she should not have been fired. She was helping her aunt . Who was to ill to get it for herself.
No I don't think she should of been fired! Her aunt could really benefit from using this medicinally.
I have to agree with Rana. Whether medical marijuana is right or wrong is not the point. IT is illegal in this state. And laws need to be followed. She knew what could happen if caught, so now its time to pay the piper.
