Did you see Octuplets Mom Nadya Suleman, the single mother of 14 kids, on Dateline last week?

I did, and then I poured myself a bowl of Froot Loops.

This morning I read that Nadya might have had plastic surgery to look and be more like Angelina Jolie, another mom with a brood. But there are some striking differences: Jolie has a husband partner, a ridiculously successful career, and she has enough money to send all 6 of her kids through Princeton.

Nadya, (not Nadia as is sometimes misspelled), has none of the above. But she might have some cash soon. She is scheduled to do the talk show circuit--including Oprah's couch--and may be hoping to get her own show.


I'm all for single motherhood. And I'm all for funny, interesting TV. But something about Nadya isn't coming together for me. Something silly like her sanity. She doesn't seem as funny or interesting or sane as Jon & Kate Plus 8.

I'm especially concerned that Nadya conceived her children from ethically sketchy fertility practices. The latest news is that the Medical Board of California is investigating her doctor for a "violation of the standard of care." I wrote about the ethics of implanting so many embryos when the story first broke.

I can't help but wonder if this woman had all of these embryos implanted in order to get her own show. It's not crazy to think that a network like TLC would want a program with 8 cute babies plus six other children. Maybe they'll call it The Froot Loop & 14.

In fact, my twins and baby aren't exactly getting me a TV show. Maybe I should head on over to my OB to ask for ovarian hyperstimiluation. I'll beg for Clomid.

Seriously, what are your current thoughts on the octuplets mom? Am I being too harsh? Would you watch a show about her?
