Fitting into my skinny jeans by this Sunday definitely sounds great to me. If you have a hot date, need to squeeze into a dress or just want to slim down by this weekend, here are some practical tips for shedding pounds fast.

Advice on How to Lose 2 Pounds by Sunday--safely--comes from from nutritionist Deborah Enos who creates quick, solid meal plans for busy people. She thinks nutrition should be easier, and I agree.


It will take 5 to 6 days to lose 2 pounds. "We carry around about 6 pounds of water weight that is unnecessary," Enos says. "And it's mostly due to bad food choices." She adds that our cells are like sponges, and when a sponge gets too full, it can't do its job anymore. So try these things this week:

Eat more citrus. It's a natural diuretic, and it works quickly. First thing in the morning, drink 1 glass of warm water with the juice from half a lemon. It helps to get rid of that bloated feeling all day long. At lunch, drink water with a quarter of a lemon in it.

Cut back on salt. It's a no-brainer, but people don't realize that most of us eat 40 percent more salt each day than our bodies can handle. Salt makes you hang on to water. Read the food labels and eat no more than 1800 milligrams of salt daily, 1500 is even better. Use fresh herbs, garlic and parsley in place of salt. Another reason to avoid salt: It makes you really tired.

Cut back on carbs. Watch the white flour--even wheat products. For every 1 gram of carbs you eat, your body hangs on to 2 grams of water. Bread, pasta and cereal make you feel bloated. Focus on beans, lentils and brown rice all week. "Most of us could cut carbs easily and not even notice," Enos says. "And we'd feel much better."

Take calcium. Women who don't get enough calcium are more likely to be bloated and hang onto water weight. Take 1200 milligrams per day, preferably in supplements. If you start on Monday, you'll feel a difference by Thursday or Friday. Watch eating too much dairy, but low-fat, low-sodium yogurt and milk are fine, too.

Increase exercise. Even though working out makes you thirsty, it helps squeeze tissues and get that excess water out of your cells. Really sweat. You will need 25-30 minutes of cardio every day.

If you want to keep the 2 pounds off past Sunday, keep exercising 4 to 5 days per week, Enos suggests. Eat a protein-based breakfast within 30 minutes of waking up. Watch the carbs and sodium and find a good diet and exercise plan you can stick to.
