As a society, we tend to focus not only on clothing sizes, but also on the number on the scale -- especially when it comes to women's bodies. Thanks to years of brainwashing, we've been convinced that "beautiful" has a certain look, and anyone who exceeds a specific set of measurements is inherently not part of the pretty club.
