This Stunning Pin-Up Photo Shoot Redefines What It Means to Be Sexy

John Carlo

A major part of Valentine's Day is to feel sexy and bask in the joy of being loved, right? Well, what if instead of doing all of that with a partner like we're told we're supposed to, it was just with yourself? Self-love, folks. To show you what we mean, take a gander at the just-launched campaign created by Janie Ruddell, creator of Cherrie Pie Productions, and Faith Costa, a plus-size model.

  • Called #thegiftofselflove, the inclusive campaign features 21 models ranging in identities and sizes and seeks to shatter societal norms of love and beauty.

"The Gift of Self Love Campaign is truly about being kind to yourself," Ruddell said in a statement. "Valentine's Day is so full of pressure. Pressure to be loved, pressure to be sexy, pressure to have someone shower you in gifts, and it's too much. Not everyone has someone to show them love, and those who do not are pushed to the side on this day. This campaigns goal is to destroy that notion."

The campaign's existence is important, because despite the media getting more inclusive with representation, many people are still left feeling unworthy and marginalized.

  • The models, who truly came from all walks of life, were dressed to the nines in gorgeous vintage pin-up wear.

"To me, pinup style has always embodied confidence, style and sexiness," Ruddell continued.

Above all else, she and Costa wanted the models to feel beautiful and loved, according to a video the two posted on Facebook.

  • Yep, we're definitely getting those vibes from these photos.

  • Ruddell had the idea for the shoot months ago, but it was only about a month ago that the two actually ended up starting the project.

If you were wondering, the two first met because Ruddell was Costa's barista. They started talking and soon learned about each other's interests, which obviously include body positivity.

  • It took them about four weeks of burning the midnight oil to complete it.

It also took the help of several sponsors, like Lady Voluptuous, Pinup Girl Clothing, Doodad and Fandango, and DMA Medi.

  • But judging from these photos, it was well worth it.

  • Just look at these glowing models!

  • Costa and Ruddell hope these pictures remind women to take the time and practice their own self-love.

"Sexy is a feeling that comes from within, and that everyone should have the privilege of feeling," Costa tells CafeMom. "It's about being confident if your true self and defining what 'sexy' is to you, not other people."

  • We're so here for it!

Let's hope this is just the first of many inclusive photo shoots by these two.
