If we believed everything we saw on social media, we'd expect pregnancy to be a fairly glamorous experience. We're bombarded with images of tight bellies and unfathomable bounce-backs, insinuating that perfection is achievable. And sure, women talk about the aches and pains of evolving into motherhood, but few rarely show it. Blogger Mel Watts just changed all of that.

  • To take away the fixation we have on "post-baby bodies," Watts bared her belly in a way most people aren't used to seeing.

In the top photo, Watts is 30 weeks pregnant; in the bottom, she is four days post C-section.

  • "Honestly it's no castle or bloody piece of art," Watts posted alongside the image of her belly. "Sure it's filled with stretch marks and dimples."

    She wrote:

"But this body, this one the one I own gave me another life. Another small human to love and to hold...So many times I've doubted my body, so many times I've pinched and pulled at sections that I didn't like. In reality this body has done everything I'd ever want it to do. Sure it's not magazine or swimsuit worthy to some. But to me and my husband, it's the place that grew our babies. It's the place that everything we love most started."

  • When women like Watts pull back the curtain on these issues, it makes the journey of motherhood and womanhood a little more bearable.

Because the truth is, we're all in this messy, beautiful life together.

    As Watts wrote:

"We feel as though we need to follow society's stigma on what we should look like when in fact we should just do what we feel works for us. No body has the same body. And every body has their own body. Enjoy it."

    Amen, sister.
