Model Shares a Selfie of Her Cervix to Save Women's Lives (PHOTOS)

This is certainly not your average selfie. Model and blogger Tracy Kiss shared a photo of her cervix in an effort to promote cervical cancer awareness, encouraging women everywhere to get the all-important smear test to help detect a positive or negative diagnosis.

Tracy had her own personal health scare when she noticed spotting during off times throughout her menstrual cycle. The UK woman went in for a smear test so that her doctor could assess if anything was wrong, according to The Independent. The test came back showing abnormalities (which Tracy denotes on the photo of her cervix to show others what they look like).

Because of these abnormalities, Tracy then went on to undergo further exams, which turned up negative for cervical cancer, but positive for the HPV virus -- which is common but can also prompt cervical cancer.

To encourage women to get a regular smear test, Tracy and other women -- even Cara Delevingne -- are posting selfies in which their lipstick is smeared. The hope is this will offer a reminder that a regular gynecological visit is imperative to a woman's health, and if something seems off down there, get it checked out immediately.

Here is my #smearforsmear selfie for @JoScervicalcancertrust helping to raise awareness for women to attend your smear test and reduce your risk of cervical cancer. You can donate by texting ‘JCCT16 £5’ to 70070 and they ask that you nominate a friend to do the same so I would like to nominate you all to please get involved and spread this message. I am currently undergoing treatment for abnormal cervical cells following a routine smear test which picked up on the changes. Please don't put it off, lives can be saved. Tracy said it best with this:

"It is a bit uncomfortable and embarrassing but these feelings won't bring you back from the dead."

Truer words have never been spoken.
