Model Gigi Hadid Refuses to Be '2 Pounds Soaking Wet' -- It's About Time!

gigi hadid Model Gigi Hadid may be modeling for Guess, covering top mags, walking major runways, dating Joe Jonas, BFFs with Taylor Swift, hanging with Kendall Jenner, etc. But becoming a rising star at just 20 wasn't easy on her -- or on her self-esteem. Before she was a model, Gigi says her "thighs were huge" and she "ate like a man," in a candid new interview with Daily Mail Australia.

Gigi revealed:

My thighs ... were like rock! I had like crazy muscles and I [ate] like a man — more than the man that I eat like now, like a bigger man — and it was crazy but at the time I didn't care what my body looked like, I just wanted to be the best volleyball player I could be, so it didn't really matter to me.

But as soon as Gigi decided she wanted to model, it began to matter. Of going around to NYC modeling agencies with her mom, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Foster, Gigi recalls:

A lot of them were like, 'You have to lose a lot of weight.' I would cry at night, and my mom would be like, 'We’re going to find the right people.'

Thankfully, instead of compromising her wellness for her work, Gigi decided to make peace with her curves, saying:

It's funny, because once you start to embrace what you have, it starts to be what you're known for. I'm kind of the model that everyone thought would always be the Guess, Sports Illustrated girl, then when I started to do high fashion stuff … people were like, 'Oh so we can have a girl with like thighs and a butt in a Tom Ford campaign, cool.' And then, all of a sudden, the high-fashion people wanted to work with me, and that's kind of how it works, if you just embrace yourself other people accept you in the same way.

Love it!

Of course, let's not get too carried away. We may have slammin' curvy supermodels like Tess Holliday and Ashley Graham now, but someone like Gigi can't get away with looking too athletic.

She told the Mail:

Once I started modeling one of my things was like yeah, I don't need to be a man volleyball player, but I also don't want to be like [holds up her little finger] two pounds soaking wet. And that's always something that I was very strong-minded about, I just want to be a healthy role model, and I haven't swayed from that at all.

In other words, the standards Gigi's being held to aren't perfect by any means, but at least she refuses to starve herself to make it in the modeling world, and she cares about setting a healthy example. To that, you gotta say bravo!
