Giving Back

8 Random Acts of Kindness That Cost Less Than $10

a woman feeding a parking meter

Years ago I was standing at our library's parking payment kiosk and rooting frantically through my purse to find some change for the parking meter when a passing woman stopped and handed me a few quarters. "Here you go," she said cheerfully. Such a small gesture, but I've never forgotten it.

A tiny act of unexpected kindness has the ability to change the trajectory of your entire day, don't you think? In the spirit of spreading more of those good feelings around, here are 8 under-$10 ways you can easily bring some happiness to a stranger's life (and your own, of course, because making other people happy feels awesome).

I do the compliment a stranger one quite often. I love jewelry so when I see something I like on someone I tell them. I am really going to have to do the chemo basket, I think I will do one geared towards kids though. Great idea to show appreciation for our own good fortune and health.

I compliment total strangers. I also hold the door for people, or offer a hand if they lok like they might need help. Usually it's me who is offered a hand for help though, as i almost always have a toddler on my hip.

Smile, and say hello.

It's a very simple thing, but IDK how many times I have been stopped in stores after I walked by someone, smiled, and muttered hi/hello, to be told how refreshing it is to see someone who is not walking around looking angry, or with their face shoved in their phone.

Holding doors, picking up items someone drops when they land closer to you, letting someone with fewer items go in front of you... there are plenty of free things to do, to make someone's day just a little nicer

I like the rose idea but I don't think I would take the popcorn off the Red box.

The woman in front of my was about $3 short for her groceries so I paid, she had twin newborns and I felt bad, she seemed like she was in a hurry

I have given change to people in front of me in line, if they don't have it or are just having trouble finding it. I don't think I would take popcorn off the Red Box machine!

I always hold the door for people. I compliment  strangers as well.

Another thing I always do is smile when I say hi.
