Julianne Hough's Secrets to Staying in Shape Are Surprisingly Simple

Dancer, actress, and singer Julianne Hough, who was a champion on Dancing With the Stars not once but TWICE, always looks like she's having the most fun at the party, doesn't she? Don't know about you, but when I heard she gave an awesome interview to Self magazine where she divulged her best fitness secrets, I expected it to include things like: don't eat. Ever. Lift 20-pound weights three times a day. Oh, and be born looking like Julianne Hough.

But I was so wrong. As it turns out, the happiest girl in Hollywood works hard, but doesn't kill herself. That might explain why she's always smiling? Her fitness and beauty tips include little things we can all start doing -- like, right now.


After famously dating Ryan Seacrest, Julianne admits one of her biggest goals for herself was to spend an entire year enjoying the single life. Love how, instead of jumping into chatting about her favorite leg toning exercises, she focuses on doing something that is great for the soul and self confidence.

Another tip she has also has absolutely nothing to do with exercise and eating well: take a great selfie. What?! How do we do that, Julianne? Do tell. And she explains:

Get the Camera+ app, set it to night exposure, take the picture 20,000 times and use the Instagram Mayfair filter.

Surely, this isn't all Julianne does to get her fit body. No, no, she also drinks a cocktail called Spicy, Skinny Margaritas (which contains tequila, soda, lime, agave, jalapenos, and whole raspberries) and eats the following foods without guilt: artichoke salad, penne with red sauce, margarita pizza, and frozen yogurt with graham crackers.

So far, I so can do all of this.

At this point, I bet you're thinking: come on, skip to the hard part. Okay, I will. Julianne says she used to hate cardio but now pushes herself to go for a run. And while she tries not to watch TV, when she does, she can also be found doing butt lifts, leg lifts and 200 sit-ups at the same time.

Oh yes, and she dances. All the time.

I'm going to cross dancing off my list right now because I have two left feet, but exercising while watching TV? Easy breezy. 

And one final beauty tip Julianne offers -- if you don't have time to pile on the makeup in the morning, treat your lips to a slick of red lipstick and boldly walk out your front door, confident that your butt lifts and Spicy, Skinny Margarita have contributed to you having an even hotter bod that day.
