It's easy to joke about putting a few pounds on during the holiday season, but a new report reveals the truth about women's winter season weight gain. According to The Daily Mail, 59 percent of women say they pack on pounds in the winter months. The average weight gain? About 4.5 pounds! Eeesh. And what do the women in this study blame for the extra weight? Well nothing else but the weather, of course. Because really, who wants to leave the cozy confines of their couch and some warm tasty treats to brave the cold if they don't really have to, right?
Does this lil' report sound all too familiar? Are you guilty of gaining some extra winter weight? Well, don't fret because you're clearly NOT alone. Check out our tips for staving off winter weight gain (well, more of it, anyway) here:
1. Cuddle with caution: You want to stay in for the entire day because it's cold outside? Not a problem. Just do it sporadically. Just because you're not leaving home for the day doesn't mean you have to skip the workout altogether. Maybe for at least two of the episodes of Girls that you're binge watching, you could do circuits during the commercial breaks. Try this easy one on for size: 15 jumping jacks, 15 sit-ups, 15 push-ups, 15 squats.

2. Snack smart: I totally understand the desire to eat throughout the entire day while you're snuggled indoors. The good news? You pretty much can: If you do it the right way. Opt for low-calorie choices that will keep you satisfied without packing on the pounds. Celery and carrot sticks will give you the crunch you crave without the calories your waistline can do without.
3. Dessert wisely: I'm so one of those people who constantly craves something sweet. Instead of reaching for that pint of ice cream at the end of the evening, stick to sweets that are better for you. Frozen grapes are absolutely delicious. Even better, though? Plop drops of your favorite low-cal yogurt onto some wax paper and stick those in your freezer. Trust me, you'll be amazed how these healthy options satisfy your sweet tooth.
4. Sneak in a midday sweat session: No one can't blame you for not wanting to wake up early on dark, cold winter mornings to go to the gym. However, you can sneak in a 30-minute workout midday that will help boost your endorphins and put you in a better mood. The trick? Make that 30-minute workout count.
Be honest, have you gained weight over the winter months? Do you try to do anything about the extra pounds?
