Jessica Alba's Easy Diet Trick Makes It Possible to Ditch Calorie-Counting for Good

jessica albaIt's crazy to think considering most men in America name her as their top celeb crush, but Jessica Alba confessed to Health magazine recently that she was "so self-conscious" about her body before having her daughters. She admits, "I was a lot more critical of my body when it was probably pretty awesome. It's like, why did I not ever wear jean shorts? That's so crazy. I was so skinny! I didn't have any cellulite ... what was I thinking?!"

Aww. I can so relate -- I feel like we all can think back to one time or another when we were so self-conscious but really shouldn't have been. It's a great lesson to embrace the here and now and not put off wearing something you want to wear or doing something you want to do because you're feeling self-conscious. Hand-in-hand with a positive body image is of course healthy habits, which Jessica elaborated on as well ... 


Jessica explained her approach to healthy eating as clean and simple:

To me, it's knowing that if you eat unprocessed fresh food -- it doesn't all have to be organic, but try to have the least amount of GMOs [genetically modified organisms] and pesticides -- you have energy, aren't starving and don't have to count calories. When I'm 'dieting,' I'm not eating as many snacks -- because I love snacks. Popchips, Pirate's Booty -- or I could eat a pound of fruit. So I cut down on snacking when I'm trying to be healthy.

Love this approach. Steering toward unprocessed, whole, preferably organic foods really does have a way of helping you look and feel your best. And while she kinda seems to have gotten caught up in the "axing snacking" aspect, I feel like the main takeaway here is to focus on eating clean, unprocessed foods -- be it for a meal or a snack.

While it may sound risky to do away with calorie-counting altogether, you really don't have to be as diligent about it if you're making certain choices -- i.e., lean protein, raw veggies, complex carbs, keeping sugar to a minimum, little to no processed foods, etc. I actually swear by this approach, because after years of "writing every bite" on Weight Watchers, I didn't want to have to worry about every calorie or fat gram or label anymore. I wanted to focus more on how and with what I was fueling my body. As a result, I feel healthier than I ever did when I was zeroed in on calorie-counting.

Sounds like that's the strategy Jessica digs, too, and judging by the hot mama's newfound confidence and glow, it's no joke!
