Bruce Jenner's Latest Nose Bandage Has Nothing to Do With Vanity

Bruce JennerFor the last week or so, Bruce Jenner has been walking around with a small bandage on his nose. Now where he's from in the land of plastic surgery, models, and venti lattes known as Hollywood -- that generally means he sprung for a nose job. However, TMZ is reporting that Bruce's days of too much plastic surgery are not making a comeback, not right now anyway. Instead, Bruce underwent surgery for skin cancer on his nose earlier this week. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star reportedly had a "chunk of tissue removed from his nose" and needed a total of 30 stitches.

Now, this isn't the first time Bruce has gone under the knife for skin cancer. Jenner had the same procedure done in 2012. And as silly as he may feel walkin' around all bandaged, what's important is that he's handling it.

You know what's scary? Each year, there are more new cases of skin cancer than breast, prostate, lung, and colon combined. Which is exactly why it's important to carefully examine any new bumps on the skin's surface. Melanoma can develop anywhere on the body, and according to Mayo Clinic, signs and symptoms of skin cancer usually include:

  • A mole that changes in size, color, feel, or bleeds
  • A small lesion with an irregular border
  • Dark lesions on your palms, fingertips, toes, or soles
  • A large brownish spot with darker speckles

Of course, getting rid of cancerous melanomas on the skin is necessary. I think it's great that Bruce isn't hiding away in his California home while he mends up. Instead, he's getting out there and showing that not only is it normal to deal with something like this -- but it's important.

Have you or someone you know ever had skin cancer?
