The upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars is packed with familiar famous faces, but one of them was in the news most recently for tragic news. Back in March, 74-year-old actress Valerie Harper was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and given only three months to live. Clearly, she's soared above expectations and is now going on a competition show in which she'll train and entertain week after week. Whoa. It's not strange to wonder how ... or why?
Well, now, Harper is speaking out about why she chose to do the show, and what she had to say for herself is nothing short of incredible.
I feel much better. And my brain scans are looking better too. The doctors tell me there's less evidence of cancer, which is very unusual. However, they both say it's not a case of if, but when. And I can live with that. ... When [DWTS] asked, I thought, 'Why would I say no?' When life asks you to dance, you just have to dance.
Aww! LOVE IT! Oh, wait, it gets even better ... Valerie revealed her true motivation for doing the show, explaining she hopes it "might prove inspiring to people to see a 74-year-old woman with terminal cancer dancing." Uh, yeah!! She's grabbing the world and her life by the lapels, putting herself out there, living every moment to the fullest. Sheesh, inspiring doesn't even begin to cover it. It's truly awesome! Kinda goes to show how much we're all capable of ...
Valerie even shared that with her doctors' blessings, she's rearranging her treatment schedule for the medication she's been taking to combat her cancer. She means business! But she obviously also plans to have a lot of fun. That's what it's all about after all ... And what Valerie's doing by taking on this amazing new challenge while coping with disease is a beautiful reminder of that.
Are you inspired by Valerie's decision to do DWTS?
