shailene woodleyWith Fifty Shades of Grey casting coming down to the wire, Shailene Woodley's name continues to crop up on the short list of young actresses being considered for Anastasia Steele. That's no shocker, as she's the up-and-coming "It" girl rising star of the moment.

What is pretty stunning, however, is how she told Flaunt magazine that she leads her life off-screen ... in an uber-green, clean, natural, "alternative" way that many of us would probably describe more as super-crunchy, hippie, and maybe even a bit extreme ...

Twenty-one-year-old Shailene told Flaunt:

I gather my own spring water from mountains every month. I go to a farm to get my food. I make everything from my own toothpaste to my own body lotions and face oils. I make my own medicines; I don’t get those from doctors. I make my own cheese and forage wild foods and identify wild plants. It’s an entire lifestyle. It’s appealing to my soul.

Whoa, just call her Katniss Everdeen! (Oh wait, that's Jennifer Lawrence.) Eh, some of this sounds completely far-fetched overkill or like things you can probably only do if you're lucky enough to be a wealthy, L.A.-based star like Shail (like the spring water bit -- I meeean ...?!). But other parts aren't so crazy ...

Like making your own toothpaste and body lotion can actually end up being cheaper than buying it at a store. When she says she makes her own meds, maybe she means she uses elderberry and zinc or something instead of running right to a doc for a Z-Pak when she has a cold, you know? Getting food from a local farm may mean joining a local CSA -- something people all over the country are doing now to patronize their community's farmers and minimize their carbon footprint.

Or ... it may mean that she is going to end up going the way of certain wacky, outspoken Hollywood health nut types like Gwyneth Paltrow and Alicia Silverstone. Who knows? But if this alternative lifestyle is what makes her happy, and keeps her healthy, more power to her!

What do you think about Shailene Woodley's "alternative" lifestyle?
