Kim Cattrall Spills Her 'Fizzy Yoga' Fitness Secret

Health Check 1

Kim CattrallTypically when celebrities share their fitness secrets, they're nothing we haven't heard before -- just some variation of eat less, exercise more. Kim Cattrall's secret, however, is definitely a new one.

The 56-year-old credits her amazing body to "fizzy yoga." She recently explained to The Times what it is, why she's addicted, and how it helped save her life. Hint: It has nothing to do with carbonated beverages.

It's short for physioyoga, it combines physical therapy, meditative breathing, and yoga, and it can burn up to 600 calories per hour. Yogi Diana Zotos, who says she introduced Cattrall to the practice, told the New York Daily News it "targets deficits, will strengthen muscles that are weak, and stretch muscles that are tight, while focusing on the core.”

It's a big difference from the intense cardio sessions Kim used to do back while filming Sex and  the City, but she's says it's incredibly effective.

I'd do massive sessions of heavy cardio before each series started and then no exercise at all while filming [Sex and the City]. I'd just collapse at the weekends.

As I get older, I find that cardio is less important to me. What I want to do more of is intense stretching.

The practice is also geared toward healing and preventing injuries. She credits her London-based instructor with "saving her life" after she helped her ease the pain in her knees she'd been battling for two years.

It sounds amazing and healthy. I know personally that when I go to work out, I almost invariably choose cardio. When time is limited, I find it hard to make myself choose stretching when there are calories to be burned. I know I need to switch it up sometimes to avoid injury and build muscle, and this sounds perfect because it seems to do it all.

The challenge now may be finding an instructor to teach fizzy yoga, and it's expensive ($200 for an hour-long session). My guess, however, is with Kim's body as a testament to the power of the practice, it will soon become a hot trend.

Have you ever done "fizzy yoga"? Does it sound like something you would enjoy?
