Leave it to Gwyneth Paltrow to second-guess experts, research, common sense, etc., and make a remark that leaves us rolling our eyes so hard it hurts. She talked to Cosmo recently and revealed that she tries to get "at least 15 minutes of sun a day" (okay, so far, so what ...), but she doesn't listen to warnings of its harmful effects because "we're human beings and the sun is the sun -- how can it be bad for you? I don't think anything that is natural can be bad for you."
AGH! Seriously, delivering quotes that make us want to pull our hair out is becoming like a second career for this woman. I want to shake her and say, "Gwynnie, honey, stick to a script or SHUT YOUR MOUTH. Pleeeease!" She's making the rest of us organic-living foodies look so bad.
With this dumb and dumber remark, it's almost as if she's trying to undermine all the other intelligence about natural living that she's known for embracing and promoting. I appreciate that she's all about organics and even that she believes in boosting her vitamin D levels by soaking up some sun. But it's just plain ignorant to claim it's impossible for something that's natural to be bad for you.
Wheat (at least when it's not GMO) is natural ... peanuts, too! How 'bout bees? Mold? Pollen? Mosquitos? You can't get more natural than any of those! A pre-schooler could tell you there's nothing redeeming about addictive drugs that start out as plants and, thus, one could argue are perfectly natural. What about ... NATURAL disasters?! Ugh.
As someone who sees a naturopath as her main health provider, it drives me nuts that many (if not most) M.D.s don't understand the risks or interactions caused by natural herbal, vitamin, or bioidentical treatments/supplements. Perhaps they don't see the merit or power to 'em, but they have both -- which come with both positive and negative potential side effects ...
Just like the SUN! Gasp! And let's be real here: Gwyneth's not only totally delusional, but with a fair complexion like that, if she's gonna say she's never been burned or suffered sun damage, she's lying through her teeth.
What do you think of Gwyneth's remark?
