Gwyneth Paltrow Says the Sun Can't Possibly Be Bad for You Because It's 'Natural'

gwyneth paltrowLeave it to Gwyneth Paltrow to second-guess experts, research, common sense, etc., and make a remark that leaves us rolling our eyes so hard it hurts. She talked to Cosmo recently and revealed that she tries to get "at least 15 minutes of sun a day" (okay, so far, so what ...), but she doesn't listen to warnings of its harmful effects because "we're human beings and the sun is the sun -- how can it be bad for you? I don't think anything that is natural can be bad for you."

AGH! Seriously, delivering quotes that make us want to pull our hair out is becoming like a second career for this woman. I want to shake her and say, "Gwynnie, honey, stick to a script or SHUT YOUR MOUTH. Pleeeease!" She's making the rest of us organic-living foodies look so bad.

With this dumb and dumber remark, it's almost as if she's trying to undermine all the other intelligence about natural living that she's known for embracing and promoting. I appreciate that she's all about organics and even that she believes in boosting her vitamin D levels by soaking up some sun. But it's just plain ignorant to claim it's impossible for something that's natural to be bad for you.

More from The Stir: Gwyneth Paltrow's Shocking Smoking Confession Makes Her Seem Like a Complete Hypocrite

Wheat (at least when it's not GMO) is natural ... peanuts, too! How 'bout bees? Mold? Pollen? Mosquitos? You can't get more natural than any of those! A pre-schooler could tell you there's nothing redeeming about addictive drugs that start out as plants and, thus, one could argue are perfectly natural. What about ... NATURAL disasters?! Ugh.

As someone who sees a naturopath as her main health provider, it drives me nuts that many (if not most) M.D.s don't understand the risks or interactions caused by natural herbal, vitamin, or bioidentical treatments/supplements. Perhaps they don't see the merit or power to 'em, but they have both -- which come with both positive and negative potential side effects ...

Just like the SUN! Gasp! And let's be real here: Gwyneth's not only totally delusional, but with a fair complexion like that, if she's gonna say she's never been burned or suffered sun damage, she's lying through her teeth.

What do you think of Gwyneth's remark?

So I guess melanoma is healthy because it's natural? I guess all other cancer must be healthy as well.

She's on a mission to make sure NO real human can relate to her, I'm convinced of it.

And all those poisonous flora and venomous fauna must be good for you too then?

It was a poor quote, but anyone with critical thinking skills knows what she meant.  She is not advocating skin cancer, but she is advocating spending small amounts of time in the sun.  And I agree with her.

Hmmmm. Arsenic is natural too.

Don't forget radium!!!

I agree with Chanandler's interpretation of the quote.   I am not a Gwyneth fan at all.

And cyanide! Cyanide is natural too.

I'm no fan of Gwyneth, but I've got to agree with her. Too much of anything is bad for you (even water). But, we're seeing issues with vitamin D deficiencies because of people's excessive fear of the sun. For the vast majority of people, 15 minutes of sun per day is not going to be a problem. For people with darker skin, they may need more than 15 minutes in order to get an adequate amount of vitamin D.

Moderation people Jeez...15 minutes of sunlight is good for you.  Soaking in vitamin D naturally is healthy.  It endorsesyour "feel good" endorphin's naturally.  I tell my sister all the time who suffers from anxiety to just get outside and walk for at least 15 minutes everyday and she will feel better.  She sits in her house almost 24 hours a day all day and wonders why she feels so bad and always in a funk.
