Ke$ha Comes Clean With a Shocking Health Confession

kesha self magazineKesha (or Ke$ha, depending on how much you care to respect celebs' stylized spellings) is on the cover of Self magazine this month looking decidedly un-Ke$ha-like. In other words, there's no blue glitter, gold grill, or even nose ring (bling?) in sight. She looks as fresh-faced as a Skipper doll. What in the world?!

As it turns out, her recent shocking makeunder reflects a lot of what Kesha talks about in the interview. Contrary to what her lyrics may have you believe, she doesn't subsist on bottles of Jack. At least judging from this recent Q&A, the pop star's actually VERY down-to-earth when it comes to her diet and fitness regimen ... 


Right off the bat, she disputes that whole drunk girl rep, noting:

People think I sit around and drink whiskey all day, but I couldn't keep up on a three-month tour if I were getting hammered every night. My show is very energetic—I dance and sing and sing at the same time and run around. Training for a tour is like training for a marathon.

No kidding! And for that reason, it's not like the singer/songwriter can be going to town with junk food, which surely wouldn't be doing her any favors to fuel all that physical activity on stage. Kesha admits she also has to stick to a clean diet for the most part. Specifically:

I try to eat healthy, because it makes me feel good. ... Eighty percent of the time I watch my portions and eat veggies and lean protein. It's excruciatingly boring, but it makes my body happy. The other 20 percent of the time, I do whatever I want. It's OK to sometimes eat a f—ton of chocolate!

Ahh, sounds like a woman after my own heart! Forget the "boring" part -- it's brilliant, because it really does keep your body AND soul happy. You've gotta live -- i.e. indulge with the occasional chocolate or whatever treat floats your boat -- but it's best to keep it to a once in a blue moon, and the rest of the time, eat whole, clean, smart foods and reasonable portions. It works, I swear, and not just for weight maintenance but for higher energy levels and better moods to boot.

Speaking of better moods, Kesha also mentioned that she has no desire to hop on the scale on the regular. "I stay far away from a scale, because it's not about a number, it's about how I feel." Hell. YES. Given how I recently laid down the law myself with the scale, I clearly couldn't agree more!

Color me seriously impressed. No matter what her public persona looks like, she's clearly got a good head on her shoulders ... Okay, maybe not when it comes to certain fashion choices, but definitely when it comes to her health and well-being.
