Despite most likely being in the dumps over her recent breakup with Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev has still managed to look put together and stunning. I'm sure those uber-positive, upbeat "picture quotes of the day" she's been posting aren't hurting how she feels and looks, but there's obviously more to it than a sunny attitude ...
Nina confessed to SELF magazine recently that her healthy diet and workout regimen is integral to maintaining her energy and overall wellness. Obvy, we wanna know what the woman does!
The Vampire Diaries actress tried vegetarianism a while back for four months and revealed to Seventeen magazine in 2011:
After a while, I started feeling weak, like I needed more protein, more energy. Then I read a review an episode of The Vampire Diaries online, and in it the writer mentioned that I was looking too thin. I was like, "Okay, maybe they’re right." It made me think: I need a burger — a beef burger, not a soy burger.
But in the time since giving that quote, she's found her way back to eating more like a vegan. She explains to SELF, "I'm not officially a vegan, but I mainly eat vegan food." Hmm, so, maybe that means that she'll occasionally have a little cheese or ice cream or something like that?
Sounds similar to what my sister did a while back. She was never super-rigid about her regimen or labeling what she was doing. Nothing "official," like Nina says. And I think that's how she managed to feel so good while she was doing it. By remaining flexible and going with what felt best to her at that time. To each their own. Listening to and trusting your body, then fueling it with whatever's the most satiating, energizing, fulfilling, etc., is so important.
Nina also shared that she tries to eat several small meals throughout the day and snack on plant-based, high protein foods like almonds. Love it! Plus, her diet also seems to harmonize with her exercise routine, which she described, too:
Yoga changed my body 100 percent. It tones everything and leans you out. Dancer’s pose is amazing. It works every muscle! And you have to focus. If your mind is somewhere else, you’ll fall.
Awesome! Sounds like everything she's doing has physical and mental benefits -- both of which are so important for not just looking incredible/"leaned out," but being strong overall.
How do you feel about Nina's routine? What diet/exercise regimen have you found works best for you right now?
